About Bryony May
Bryony is a registered osteopath at the Cullompton Osteopathic Clinic, which based at the Culm Valley Integrated Centre for Health. She joined the clinic in the summer of 2010, after moving back to the West Country. She has since settled in, and begun to gain a reputation in the area for her gentle and effective application of osteopathy.
Bryony has always had an interest in pursuing a career in complementary medicine, and this wish was realised in osteopathy, a discipline that combines scientific knowledge with subtle and accurate hands on application.
Before beginning the 4 year BSc training in osteopathy, Bryony studied anatomy and physiology to a high level, and qualified as a therapeutic massage therapist. Since becoming an osteopath, she has begun to train as an equine and canine osteopath, which will eventually complement her human practice.
Enjoying the diversity of her job, Bryony believes no two people are the same, and that it is important to reflect this in osteopathic practice. Different styles of treatment are appropriate for different people at different stages in their life. Although she is equally happy treating an unsettled baby, and a chronic low back condition, the approach and techniques used may be very different.
Whichever techniques are utilised within a treatment, they will always be within your range of comfort, effective and tailored to your particular needs. Treatment will be undertaken only after the benefits of treatment have been discussed, and with your consent. Bryony is always happy to answer any questions you might have. Having received detailed tuition on pathology, and a thorough clinical training, you can be sure that Bryony will refer you to the relevant medical or complementary practitioner if she feels osteopathy is not the most suitable solution for your complaint.
Her skills as a clinician include:
- Cranial osteopathy
- Classical osteopathy based on a whole body approach
- Manipulation “clicking” joints, applied accurately and specifically
- Soft tissue “massage” and muscle energy technique
- Visceral and functional osteopathy.
Bryony specialises in gentle, balancing techniques, often including cranial osteopathy. This is particularly appropriate for babies and children, and those who prefer a less physically demanding approach to their problem.
In the above video Bryony gives an introduction to the clinic.
